In homeopathy, symptoms are key.

The body possesses innate wisdom, maintaining balance, growing, repairing, reproducing, and mounting an immune response when threatened.

When you’re ill, your body creates symptoms to help eliminate the illness, such as increasing your temperature to a point where a virus can’t reproduce. If these symptoms don’t solve the problem, the body will gradually generate new symptoms, causing them to accumulate in layers, much like an onion.

In homeopathy, we carefully observe all symptoms, no matter how unusual, as they guide us to the right remedy, aiming to peel back these layers. Here’s a helpful guide to assist you in reflecting on your symptoms, which will help me in your treatment.

Concomitants

These are symptoms that may seem unrelated to your primary condition but emerged around the same time as your illness, forming part of the same “onion” layer.

Location

  • Where on your body are you experiencing symptoms?

  • Did the symptoms begin in one area and shift to another?

  • Do they spread from one location to another?

  • Are they confined to a small area or spread across a larger region?

  • Do the symptoms move or change locations?

Origin

What events were occurring in your life right before the illness began? We often recognize that illness can follow an injury, but significant emotions or major life changes can also lead to health issues. Understanding these factors is beneficial for homeopathic treatment, as they influence your emotions, which subsequently affect your overall health.

Modalities

Aside from medication, what aspects of your environment or personal actions contribute to improving or worsening your illness? When do you observe these changes occurring? Time of day, frequency, seasons Temperature Weather conditions Your body position, such as standing Movement Physical activity / function Sensory experiences Psychological factors

Sensation

How does your illness feel to you? Each of us experiences illness in our own way, but it’s important for your homeopath to understand the specific sensations or pains you are experiencing, as this information is crucial in finding the appropriate remedy for you. At times, it can be useful to consider what actions you might take to help someone else experience that same sensation.

Food

Our food (and drink), tastes, and choices are part of our individuality and can help a homeopathy choose between potential remedies. Here it is important to ignore what you think a “healthy” answer would be and go with your “gut” reaction. Things we look for:
Foods that make you unwell
Foods you hate
Foods you crave
